Maita Chatziioannidou

Maita Chatziioannidou was born in 1986, in Thessaloniki (Greece). While studying architecture (Auth, UniFi), she orientated her focus on creating images that tell stories mostly through illustration, considering the book as one of the most interesting design objects. Working thereafter as a graphic designer, she is a founding member of Loopo Studio – Architectural & Graphic Design, which since 2012 is -for her and her co-workers- a field for exploring the boundaries of design and personal expression, as well as a field of exploring design as labor. Maita communicates her personal illustrative work sporadically through small self-publications, workshops, artistic collaborations, and participation in exhibitions and residencies.

The images I create usually relate to the natural environment, the flowers and the plants, the domestic environment, the body and her everyday practice inside the domestic field. Through these representations, my works are often narratives of the body and/or nature in their everyday (im-)perfection, and -as a completely natural consequence of the above- they want to challenge notions of heteronormativity.
