Poetry Night “For Memory’s Sake” @ Castle of Tirana | 29 March 2023

The project “ECHO III: For Memory’s Sake” invite you to join us for a “Poetry Night,” which will be held near the premises of Tirana Castle on March 29th, at 6:30 PM.

The poetic night “In Memory’s Honor” will bring together young writers from Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, and Albania to perform and discuss through verses on forced marriages, gender issues, and nuclear family in the Balkans. The event will be conducted in Albanian and English, and is divided into two parts: Part I_Poetic Performance and Part II_Open Discussion with the writers:

Meri Dishnica (Albania) Miruna Vlada (Romania) Jona Xhepa (Albania) Tonia Tzirita Zacharatou (Greece) Renis Hyka (Albania) Olya Stoyanova (Bulgaria)

“ECHO III: For Memory’s Sake” is as much an artistic project as it is connected to the intangible cultural heritage that has brought together artists from Albania, Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania working in theater, music, visual arts, and literature. Its aim is to explore traditions and culture through themes of forced marriages, marriages with a spectator, and nuclear families in the context of the Balkans. The project specifically aims to explore gender roles and norms through history and how these phenomena impact the lives of young people and artists in Europe.

Our strong ties with the past have been passed down through time and generations. We grew up as grandchildren and often as relatives of people who became part of a forced marriage or were pressured into marriage against their will, families who collected every penny they had, relinquished every inch of land in property like dowry for their daughter.

This project is supported by the Creative Europe program and consists of a consortium of 5 organizations: Inter Alia, Open Space Foundation, RHEA, Biennale of the Western Balkans, International Volunteer Projects.
