Abstract
In the series of photos “Desert of Communism”, Marcella Papp plays with architectural photography, which in recent years has become a separate part of contemporary photography. Similar to many foreigners visiting Sofia, she is very impressed by the huge complexes of communist panel blocks surrounding the city. In her case, however, she is not as interested in the specific historical past of the buildings, but in the monotonous rhythm of the windows and balconies, in the spectacular alternation of black and white colours, and in the graphics of the verticals and horizontals.
