Abstract
"Visual Diaries is a research art project conducted during a one-month art residency on the Greek island of Spetses. During my stay, I have been collecting, archiving and memorising stories inherent to the island and the local way of life, in the format of visual diaries with notes and sketches. Four notebooks and thirty drawings are the visual collection and outcome of the project. The number of the drawings mirrors the time spent on the island. Four notebooks are complementing the collection of images and stories. The first diary assembles different flora species from the island. Spetses has also been called the Isola di Spezzie, the Island of Spices and/or flowers. The different plants have been dried and catalogued with names and dates. The second diary (this one) hosts flat stones from the shore in front of our church and working space. The third one includes pastel sketches with landscapes, places and objects from the island. The forth diary is a register of the stories and a prelude to the thirty drawings." Deyana Stareva
